Insurance is accepted. Private pay options are available. Whichever path works for you, you'll know exactly what to expect before your first session.
In-network with major plans
Not sure if your plan is covered? Contact your insurance provider and ask about your mental health benefits, your deductible, and whether Dr. McKinney is in-network under your specific plan.
Using insurance? Benefits are verified prior to your first appointment and you will be informed of your copay before your first session begins — no surprises.
If you'd prefer to work with Dr. McKinney as an out-of-network provider, many insurance plans offer partial reimbursement for out-of-network mental health services. A monthly superbill can be provided upon request to submit to your insurance company. For more information, see this guide to out-of-network benefits.
The Benefits of Private Pay
There is no wrong way to access care — the best option is simply the one that works for you. That said, private pay does offer some distinct advantages worth knowing about.
Enhanced privacy and confidentiality. When insurance is involved, your treatment records, session notes, and any mental health diagnoses may be accessible to your insurer. Private pay keeps your care entirely between you and your provider — no third-party access to your records, no audits, no external involvement in your treatment decisions.
No mandatory diagnosis. Insurance coverage requires a formal mental health diagnosis to authorize sessions. Private pay allows you to pursue therapy for personal growth, life transitions, relationship patterns, or general well-being — without a diagnostic label attached to your medical record.
If using insurance makes care accessible for you, that is a completely valid and supported choice. Benefits are verified before your first appointment so you know exactly what to expect.
